It Doesn?t Take Long, It Takes Clarity and Focus

Author: Bill Gluth

I cant tell you the number of times I missed out on doing something great because I told myself I was too busy and just didnt have time.

One of my personal favorites is This darn project will take forever to get done.

And so I dont take any action.

Months down the road, when I could have reaped the benefit of doing the task, Im stuck wishing I would have done it instead of reveling in the great feeling of success.

How about you? How many times have you said Im too #)*@ busy. Or, That will just take too long to get done. I cant take the time.

Time, the imaginary mechanism that controls most everyones life is a very funny thing.

It doesnt really exist.

Its just a concept dreamed up a long time ago that we all buy into. Then we allow ourselves to be enslaved to this imaginary demon that sucks the life out of us.

The next time a great opportunity comes your way, but will take time and effort outside of the norm to accomplish, realize something important.

It doesnt really take long to do anything IF you are:

1. Clear on what needs to be done and the steps it takes to accomplish the task.

2. Focused enough to do one tiny step at a time until the task is completed.

Thats all it takes. Clarity and Focus. The saboteur of ultimate success is your busy-ness.

If you are often heard saying I cant do ____ because Im just too busy, reevaluate for a moment. Ask yourself this simple question.

Is the short term pain of doing this task worth the long term result Ill gain?

If its not, forget about it and move on with your life.

If it is, follow the action steps below.

How to get important things done in your life more often, starting right now.

1. Decisiveness - Ask yourself, Is the short term pain of doing this task worth the long term result Ill gain?

2. Clarity - Get clear on the specifics of what you want to accomplish. Be sure to write down the result you expect to gain from doing the task.

3. Focus how will you accomplish the task? What is does completion look like? Then work backwards to where you are now.

4. ACTION - Write down each step youll take AND the day and time youll do each of them. Then simply follow the master plan to completion.

I know, I lost you here, but thats all right. Only 20% of the people who read this article will ever do anything with the idea anyway.

The important question to ask is, Will I be one of the elite 20% or part of the commodity crowd, hoping, wishing, praying, dreaming but seldom doing.

Another way to look at it is, Will your life be comprised of dreams left undone or accomplishments that made you a stand out human being?

5. Awareness (the secret step) - Follow each step to completion. If you get off-track, catch yourself quickly and get back on the road to completion right away.

When you realize that nothing really takes long to do in the greater scheme of things, but does require clarity and focus to do it, your life will change from that day forward.

Are you ready for a new adventure or are you truly happy with where you are today?
